In May of 1999,work began to arrange for a place to gather for corporate worship for those desiring a Church that believed what Baptists believe but yet would be a gather place for all people who believed the Bible.

In September of 1999, a meeting was held and “Church at the Butte” was formed under the leadership of John Embrey, church planting strategist with the Baptist Convention of New Mexico. The church began meeting in October of that same year in the old “Blue Waters” saloon. Within a few months, Robert Rachuig was called as the first Pastor and Jim Mixon as Minister of Music and education.

God blessed the church with great growth reaching our small retirement community of Elephant Butte and Truth or Consequences so much so that property was purchased and paid for in a short time with groundbreaking occurring in May of 2003.

The present church facility was built in 2004 and we have been using it for the glory of God ever since. In 2007, Pastor Robert Rachuig informed the church family that his health was declining and that they needed to begin a search for God’s man to be called as the Sr. Pastor. God answered their prayers when Jeff Estes was called in May of 2008.

2015 Pastor Joe Byers was called to be the head pastor of CATB. It was the dawn of a transition for CATB as we continued the process of becoming a passionate, worshiping, missions-minded, Kingdom-focused, church but not just for retirees. Instead, it is our desire to be a multi-ethic, multi-generational church-looking a little like heaven. We continue asking God to do this in our midst!
